Talk: Mentalism for the Hypnotist
David Reich has been involved with hypnosis for more than 20 years, initially using it primarily as an adjunct to his work as a mentalist and performer. In recent years, he has increasingly brought what he describes as “proper hypnosis” into his shows, while also exploring novel ways that hypnosis and mentalism can strengthen work in both performance and therapeutic settings.
Alongside his stage experience, David has enjoyed a highly successful career in technology and business. He has found that the communication, observation and interpersonal skills developed through mentalism and hypnosis can be valuable well beyond the stage, helping people engage attention, build expectation and create memorable experiences. Seven years ago, he was awarded the title of Bard by the Order of Merlin, recognising his contribution and standing within the magical arts.
At IHC27, David will present “Mentalism for the Hypnotist”. The session explores the natural overlap between the two disciplines and shows how carefully chosen mentalism effects can enhance a hypnotist’s pre-talk, build curiosity and act as powerful convincers. For stage and entertainment performers, mentalism can also become part of the pre-talk itself, loosening up an audience and preparing people to respond. Drawing on two decades of performance experience, David will demonstrate practical ideas that hypnotists can understand, adapt and begin using immediately.
